Friendly Energy Being
(Book Review: Neil Dowling: Totally Dublin)
Artist Oisin Byrne describes his book Friendly Energy Being as a childrens’ book for adults. It’s full of lovely pictures and takes only fifteen minutes to read. Friendly Energy Being is the story of nothing. From the nothing comes a something and then the something and the nothing live happily ever after in a beautiful multi-coloured universe with lots of little somethings and nothings. But of course coming from the mind of one of the country’s most talented emerging artists there’s more to Friendly Energy Being than first meets the eye. FEB is also a philosophical treatise, a creation myth, a breath of fresh air, a prophecy for the glorious future within our grasp, a revolutionary theory that could shake the foundations of quantum physics, a parable, and it’s an allegorical warning against the dangers of waging an illegal war in the Middle East. Well, maybe not that last one.
The project, which is supported by the Arts Council (and The Academy of Everything is Possible) with a percentage of the cover price going to charity, began life as an extension of Byrne’s painting and origami work. He gave the illustrated story out to friends and soon discovered there was massive public demand. The wheels of industry were duly set in motion to satisfy the hordes. Anyway, you too can be a part of the movement by picking up a copy of this beautifully finished book at www.oisinbyrne.com. It makes a really nice gift for anyone who needs a little pick-me-up, infused as it is with the positive vibes that emanate from all that 21st century flower child Byrne touches.
